Cookie Policy
Last updated: 18 June 2026
This Cookie Policy explains how ClassKite (“ClassKite”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) uses cookies and similar technologies on our website at classkite.com and the ClassKite classroom platform (together, the “Service”). It should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal information more generally.
We keep our use of cookies deliberately minimal. We do not use cookies for advertising, and we do not use third-party analytics or cross-site tracking cookies.
1. What are cookies and similar technologies
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device. Cookies are widely used to make websites work, to keep you signed in, and to remember your preferences. “Similar technologies” include things such as browser local storage, which lets a site save small amounts of information on your device for the same kinds of purposes. In this policy we use “cookies” to refer to both, except where we draw a distinction.
2. The cookies we use
The only cookie ClassKite sets is a single strictly necessary cookie that keeps you securely signed in. Without it, you would have to re-enter your password far more often, which is impractical during a lesson.
| Cookie | Purpose | Type | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
classkite_refresh |
Keeps you signed in by securely renewing your session, so you stay logged in across a class without re-entering your password. Set with the HttpOnly, Secure, and SameSite=Strict attributes and limited to our authentication routes, which also helps protect against cross-site request forgery. |
Strictly necessary (first-party) | Up to 14 days; renewed while you stay active, and cleared when you sign out. |
Because this cookie is essential to providing a service you have asked for (signing in), it does not require consent under applicable cookie rules. If you block it, you will not be able to stay logged in to the Service.
3. Similar technologies we use
To make the Service work well, your browser also stores some information on your device using local storage rather than cookies. This is first-party, stays on your device, and is not used to track you across other websites. It includes:
- Session information — a short-lived access token and basic account details so the app can keep you signed in and load your classes.
- Preferences and settings — for example which class or section you last viewed, and your annotation and display preferences on the smart board, so the Service behaves the way you left it.
- Feature and performance flags — technical settings that help us deliver, test, and improve features such as the PDF annotator and live classroom.
You can clear local storage at any time through your browser’s settings (often under “clear site data” or “cookies and site data”), though doing so will sign you out and reset your preferences.
4. Cookies set by third parties
When you make a payment, our payment providers — currently Stripe and PayPal — may set their own cookies on their own pages to process the transaction securely and to prevent fraud. Those cookies are controlled by the relevant provider and are governed by that provider’s own cookie and privacy policies, not this one. Aside from payment processing, ClassKite does not embed third-party advertising or tracking cookies in the Service.
5. What we do not use
We do not use cookies or similar technologies to build advertising profiles, to serve targeted ads, or to track you across other websites or apps. We do not sell information collected through cookies, and we do not use cookies to track students for advertising purposes.
6. Managing cookies
Most browsers let you view, manage, block, and delete cookies and clear site data through their settings. Because the only cookie we set is strictly necessary to sign you in, blocking or deleting it will prevent you from using the parts of the Service that require an account. For more about controlling cookies, see the help pages of your browser, or guidance such as allaboutcookies.org.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time, for example if we change the technologies we use. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice.
8. Contact us
