How ClassKite handles student data
ClassKite is used in classrooms, so protecting student data is part of how it is built. This page sets out how we handle privacy and security.
What we commit to, and what we never do
Every point below reflects our live Privacy Policy and how the product is actually built.
We don't sell personal information
ClassKite is funded by subscriptions, not advertising. We do not sell your personal information, and the product carries no third-party ads.
Operated on EU infrastructure
ClassKite runs on infrastructure in the European Union, and we process data under EU/UK GDPR legal bases.
Encryption in transit
Connections to ClassKite are served over HTTPS, so data is encrypted in transit between devices and our servers.
Passwords are hashed, never stored in plain text
Account passwords are stored only as salted bcrypt hashes. We never keep the password itself.
Role-based access
Accounts are scoped by classroom role. Teachers work with their own classes; school admins manage teachers, classes and seats from a separate admin console, where they can also open the Gradebook of any class in their school.
Retention and deletion
Learning content and classroom activity are kept while the account is in use. Results, grades and report cards are kept for the three newest years on screen, and archived years are kept until a school admin (or a teacher with a personal account) purges one, which is possible only after the year's archive has been downloaded and can be cancelled for 30 days. Closing a term or a year never deletes anything. A personal teacher account that nobody signs in to for 12 months, and a school 12 months after it is deactivated for non-payment, are deleted after email warnings. You can ask us to delete your data at any time by emailing support@classkite.com.
For school leaders
Adopting a classroom tool means trusting it with student information. These are the points school leaders usually ask about:
- Student privacy was designed into the product from the start, because ClassKite is used in classrooms.
- Data is processed under recognised GDPR legal bases, and we never sell personal information or run ads.
- Our policies are written to be shared with parents and reviewed with your data-protection lead before you roll out.
For IT & admins
All traffic is served over HTTPS (TLS).
Passwords stored as salted bcrypt hashes; sign-in is rate-limited.
Role-based accounts (student, teacher, school admin, super admin) limit what each user can see and do.
EU infrastructure with access controls and monitoring in place.

No. The product carries no third-party advertising, on the free Teacher Basic plan or on the paid plans.
Where is data hosted?
ClassKite runs on infrastructure in the European Union, and we process personal data under EU/UK GDPR legal bases.
Can users request access to or deletion of their data?
Yes. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, update, delete, or port your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. See the Privacy Policy for how to make a request.
Who can access student data?
Access is role-based. Teachers see the students in their own classes; school admins manage teachers, classes and seats, and can open the Gradebook of any class in their school, which shows students' results. Students see their own work, practice and grades, never another student's.
How are students' accounts handled?
ClassKite is used in classrooms, and student accounts may belong to children. The school or teacher is responsible for providing notice to, and obtaining any required consent from, students and their parents or guardians; ClassKite processes that information on the school's behalf.
