Privacy Policy
Last updated: 18 June 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how ClassKite (“ClassKite”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information when you use our website at classkite.com and the ClassKite classroom platform (together, the “Service”). It also describes the choices and rights you have regarding your information.
ClassKite is an education service used by individual teachers, students, and schools to run interactive lessons, generate and deliver practice, annotate materials on a smart board, and review classroom progress. Because the Service is often used with students — some of whom may be children — we take the privacy of that information seriously. Please read the section “Children, students, and schools” below.
1. Who is responsible for your information
ClassKite operates the Service and is responsible for personal information processed through it, as described in this policy. Where a school or teacher uses ClassKite to deliver lessons and practice to their own students, that school or teacher determines how student information is used in their classes; in those cases ClassKite processes student information on their behalf and in accordance with their instructions and this policy. If you have questions about who controls your information, contact us at support@classkite.com.
2. Information we collect
We collect information in the following ways:
2.1 Information you provide
- Account information — when you register, we collect your name, email address, role (for example teacher, student, or school administrator), and a securely hashed password.
- School and class information — school or organisation name, class names, rosters, invitation codes, and seat or licence details.
- Learning content you create or upload — topics, questions, worked examples, annotations, and documents (such as PDFs) that you add to the Service.
- Practice and classroom activity — student answers, scores, progress, and session activity generated while using live practice and the smart board.
- Payment information — if you purchase a paid plan, billing details are collected and processed by our payment providers (see below). We do not store full payment card numbers on our own systems.
- Communications — messages, support requests, and feedback you send to us.
2.2 Information we collect automatically
- Technical and device data — IP address, browser type, device and operating-system information, and similar diagnostic data.
- Usage data — pages and features accessed, actions taken, timestamps, and performance and error information used to keep the Service reliable and secure.
- Cookies and local storage — we use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and operate the Service. See “Cookies and similar technologies” below.
3. How we use information
We use personal information to:
- provide, operate, and maintain the Service, including accounts, classes, practice, and the smart board;
- authenticate users and keep accounts and content secure;
- process payments, manage subscriptions, and administer school seats and licences;
- generate classroom reports and analytics for teachers and schools about their own students;
- provide customer support and respond to your requests;
- send service-related communications, such as account, security, and transactional messages;
- monitor, troubleshoot, and improve performance, reliability, and security; and
- comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
4. Legal bases for processing
Where data-protection laws such as the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) apply, we rely on the following legal bases: performance of a contract (to provide the Service you or your school requests); legitimate interests (to secure, support, and improve the Service, balanced against your rights); consent (where required, for example for certain cookies or communications); and compliance with legal obligations.
5. Children, students, and schools
ClassKite is designed to be used in classrooms, and student accounts may belong to children. Where a school or teacher uses ClassKite with students:
- the school or teacher is responsible for providing appropriate notice to, and obtaining any required consent from, students and their parents or guardians under applicable laws;
- ClassKite processes student personal information only to provide the Service to that school or teacher and as described in this policy;
- we do not use student personal information to serve targeted advertising, and we do not sell student personal information; and
- student information is made available to the responsible teacher or school, who can request its correction or deletion.
If you believe a child has provided us personal information without appropriate authorisation, please contact us at support@classkite.com and we will take appropriate steps to address it.
6. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as follows:
- Service providers — trusted third parties who process information on our behalf to operate the Service, including payment processors (such as Stripe and PayPal), cloud hosting and infrastructure providers, email-delivery providers, and error-monitoring and analytics providers. These providers are permitted to use the information only to provide services to us.
- Within your school or class — teachers and school administrators can access information relating to their own classes and students as part of normal use of the Service.
- Legal and safety — where required by law, regulation, or legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of ClassKite, our users, or others.
- Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to the protections described in this policy.
7. International data transfers
ClassKite is operated using infrastructure located in the European Union. If you access the Service from outside that region, your information may be transferred to and processed in countries whose data-protection laws differ from those in your own country. Where required, we put appropriate safeguards in place for such transfers, such as standard contractual clauses.
8. Data retention
We retain personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, and afterwards only as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Learning content and classroom activity are retained while the relevant account, class, or school remains active, and are deleted or anonymised when no longer required. You or your school may request deletion as described below.
9. Security
We use technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal information, including encryption in transit, hashing of passwords, access controls, and monitoring. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and to address vulnerabilities promptly.
10. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, update, or delete your personal information; to object to or restrict certain processing; to data portability; and to withdraw consent. To exercise these rights, contact us at support@classkite.com. If your information is managed by your school or teacher, we may direct your request to them. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
11. Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies (such as browser local storage) that are necessary to operate the Service — for example, to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences — as well as limited technologies that help us understand and improve performance and reliability. You can control cookies through your browser settings, although disabling some cookies may affect how the Service works. For full details of the cookies we use, see our Cookie Policy.
12. Third-party links
The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services that we do not control. This policy does not apply to those third parties, and we encourage you to review their privacy policies.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
14. Contact us
If you have any questions or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or your personal information, please contact us at support@classkite.com.
